Take a moment to think about a huge range of things that people might make assumptions about.

For example, think about the assumptions you might make based on the following characteristics?

  • Someone with bright red hair ‘vs’ someone with a more conservative haircut.
  • A woman with children ‘vs’ a college leaver.
  • A religious person ‘vs’ a person with no religious belief.
  • A university graduate ‘vs’ someone who has not had a university education.
  • A college leaver ‘vs’ someone nearing retirement age.

We may make bias assumptions about a person’s skillset and ability (like those listed above) and these could be quite easily incorrect.  Whenever you assume something, you should ask yourself whether you actually know it’s true.
